RUNWAY - Fall 2011

Favorite so far:
BCBG (see below)

 TOMMY HILFIGER

The rockstar meets menswear looks were so refreshing for Tommy, whom I often find boring. The leather, heavy sweaters, and "cool factor" were definitely there and made it an awesome collection.

Key factors:
traditional fall colors (dark green, navy, browns...) in leather, silk satin, wool and cashmere
pinstripe slacks, cable sweaters, printed silk pajamas (Will they go away?!)
shawl collars, floppy hats with ribbon detailing

 CUSHNIE ET OCHS

This detailed black dress and the flares with goat hair top are so beautiful! The others...eh.  But the collection is definitely sexy. The '70s is still prevalent with flared pants, fringe, and button-down shirts.

I always love black and white as the main color scheme with a bit of pop, and the pop as such unique colors such as olive green and purple is so beautiful.

THAKOON

I especially love the bottom heavy printed coats! The bold colors and prints, mixture of prints in neutral colors, and varying shapes look youthful and fun.

Key factors:
vivid colors mixed with traditional fall colors of greens and greys in flannel, wool and cotton
full skirts with belted coats (coordinated prints), cropped pants, printed coats, sweaters, and dressesleather boots and sandals

JILL STUART

Gosh, I love these prints, the fit, the shapes...and I hate that I love this collection since I know the designer. But gosh again...isn't it beautiful? Whoever designed this collection is a rising star in his/her own right.

Key factors:
fall browns, teals, purples and burnt oranges, as well as black, in lame, leather, silk satin

satin sheath dresses in unique animal prints and solid past-the-knee dresses
socks with platform shoes

SUNO

OMG I am so obsessed with these prints!
I want that sweater (2nd from the left) and coat (2nd from the right)!

Key factors:
fall brown, oranges and purples, with beautiful blues and neutrals in washed silk, lace and wool

maxi dress that shoes ZERO parts of the human figure (except maybe your arms if it's a short sleeve!), heavy vests and coats, kimono sleeves, varying lengths of skirts, printed PJ pants (again - oh no!)

ALEXANDER WANG

I'm not sure what to think about this collection.
I call this "Tough Luxury."

Key factors:
black, grey silver, and neutral blush colors in nylon, angora, leather (including quilted leather) and satin, leather open-toe knee-high boots, sandals

LIBERTINE

So much more wearable than Rag & Bone! Similar style but so much more refined and classy.
Rag & Bone:
 Libertine:
And I LOVE the coordinating printed tights!

Key factors:
bright colors and metallic mixed with black and white in wool, silk and jacquard and screen printsfingerless gloves

JASON WU

The tailoring, the details, the fit...what an impeccable collection.

Key factors:
black, white, red and nude colors in lace, silk charmeuse, leather, silk taffeta and silk chiffon, brocade
prim tops, and what I like to call "Political Clothing" since a Princess and the President's wife could wear them and look elegant, refined and proper.
maxi skirt, skinny pants, prim tops
jeweled appliques, sequins, and lace trims
dotted stockings, skinny belts

PETER SOM

I hate to doubt this collection, but it seems as tough the length of the pants and skirts were not considered when considering what a woman wants to wear. Does she want to wear clothing that make her legs look SHORTER? In most cases, no.

BCBG MAX AZRIA
Love!

Layering flowing maxi tank dresses over long sleeve bodysuits, paired with boots and relaxed belts, is so fresh, and I appreciate keeping the underpinning white as an attempt to keep summer alive while the temperature cools.

Key factors:
black, white, burnt orange, nude and browns, cobalt blue in silk chiffon, crepe and jacquard, satin, faux fur, felted wool
plunging v-necks, contrast piping, dropped waists
knee-high leather boots

WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND

The vintage store has an in-house label, and I'm loving it!
The '70s look never gets old to me...

Key factors:
camel, dark red, and olive green in distressed denim, velvet, washed lambskin, fur, crocheted sweater knits, and silk satin
florals and paisleys
flares, and again, coordinating belt prints
high waisted pants and alwys love the long-sleeve dresses

knee-high leather boots, patent leather platform shoes
