The MET GALA fashions were fabulous this year. While some went all out (ex: Demi Moore), others wore simple sheaths and chose to watch rather than play.
I was glad to see so many stars celebrating Alexander McQueen at the MET Gala this year.
Below are my favorites of the night, as well as a few that I could've done without.
Who What Wear Daily photos |
1st - large photo) Ashley Olsen wore Vintage Christian Dior Haute Couture in a way that made vintage look fresh. The '80's style shoes and puff sleeves gave her a maturity and sexy look.
TOP ROW
1st from the left) Rosie's silk dress could look risque on some people, but this model knows how to work it with class and sophistication. And the nude heels look perfect.
3rd from the left) Jessica Stam added smoky eyes and Roger Vivier metallic platform strappy heels to lessen the "princess feel" and add a roughness, some edge...
4th from the left) Ginnifer Goodwin ROCKED cool hair and a bright Topshop Unique cutout dress with coordinating Van Cleef & Arpels jewels and Aperlai shoes. Her dark hair and green dress reminded me of Angelina Jolie's famous look in the green sequin dress with green jewel earrings and long dark hair.
Dark hair + bright green = beautiful and a stand out look.
BOTTOM ROW
1st from the left) Blake Lively, you did it again in Chanel Couture. How low can you go...here's how low! Wow - sex appeal, style icon, and the ability to look good in almost everything she wears.

3rd from the left) Another style icon - Diane Kruger - wow. The glamour of old Hollywood suits her perfectly in a "Jason Wu nude Chantilly lace top and black silk chiffon draped skirt" paired with red lipstick and smooth waves.
Dakota Fanning looked spectacular in a Valentino dress and a simple hairstyle. It's fashion forward in a classic ballgown style, so I think it's a great choice for the teen movie star.

Sarah Jessica Parker also wore nude well, here in Alexander McQueen:

She does '60's well, and I love the 3/4 sleeves and metallic shoes.
Another wow - Jessica Alba in crushed gold that suited the glow from her pregnancy perfectly. Ralph Lauren impressed me with this one.

Zac Posen's design was very cool for this type of event:

Doesn't this remind you of the Adams Family Christina Ricci?
Eva Mendes is one of the few who can wear pleats and look fabulous, displayed here in Stella McCartney:

What do you think of Rihanna's Stella McCartney black lace choice? Seems she is going the see-through route lately!

I was disappointed with my girl, Jennifer Lopez, in Gucci:

I don't expect much from Kristen Stuart's fashion choices, but this unflattering gown is just a bad choice, and I'd love to see her look more put together and glamorous. The most surprising was that this Proenza Schouler was custom made!

I can't...I can't...Naomi...

Lucy Liu's Vionnet unflattering dress was just strange.
Christina Hendricks wore Carolina Herrera, a fabulous designer, but the fit and fabric was all wrong for her curvy body. A sleek red would've been my choice for her hair and makeup palette.

I love feathers, but Daphne Guiness may be turning into a bird in this McQueen dress. I think this was better left for the runway show.

I guess there's a fine line between couture and crass.
Good read and well written. :)
