SKINNY

I was at the gym earlier today and was inspired to write a blog post to all of you.

We talk so much about wanting to "lose weight," "tone up," "look like her / him," and "be skinnier."
But what about health?

Sometimes we focus too much on the number on the scale. Sometimes we forget to look at ourselves and remember that we are all beautiful.

Skin and bones...that's what skinny becomes without eating enough or exercising.

Fatigue, depression or low self esteem, mood swings, stringy hair and dull skin, obsession...that's what becomes of us if we care too much about becoming "skinny."

Be healthy. Be strong. Be you.

I completely agree. "Skinny" doesn't necessarily mean "healthy." This is good news because balance is more achievable and more desirable than pure deprivation.

Great point! People also need to remember that muscle weighs more than fat. Sometimes the number on the scale isn't a good indicator of ones overall health and fitness level. :)

Thanks for focusing on HEALTH =) One of my pet peeves is how obesity gets a lot of attention for how it's unhealthy, but rarely people talk about skinny people's health. I'm not trying to judge, but I see young (thin) girls at the supermarket fill their carts with low calorie frozen dinners and I'm betting they think that because they are skinny they are healthy. But they are just eating a bunch of preservatives and chemicals and I can't imagine it provides them with enough nutrition if they were to have an active lifestyle. So while news reports focus on the obesity crisis, they also need to take a look at how skinny people run the risk of having health problems as well. (Nina)
