Bronx Zoo Run 2012

Another year, another Run For The Wild!

This year, the 5k was to help save the lions (such beautiful, amazing creatures...). As you may remember, I have completed this run for the past few years and make it a goal to beat my time from the prior year. Since I have been successful every year, I give myself more pressure each year to continue achieving this goal.

I have had a year of many ups and downs, and I've had many struggles I've had to overcome or am continuing to, so I wasn't sure if my body would be able to do it this year.

But then I realized that I could...and I would....

And this was my best year by a long shot.

I usually beat my time by a minute or so, but this year it was by almost 5 minutes!

I finished the 5k in 23 minutes 33 seconds!

When my music wasn't working well in the beginning, I wondered what type of a run this would be. And then I remembered that I have run without music. I didn't NEED music to keep the pace and have a successful run. And then the music started working...

For the first time during a Run For The Wild, I was able to enjoy watching the giraffes run alongside me, hear the sound of peacocks, and truly appreciate running through the wild!
(See last year's post about the Race For The Penguins!)

Finito! Best part? After a bit of walking around the zoo post-race, I actually felt like doing another one!
