KELLOGGS

I read a very interesting article this morning that I wanted to share and get your thoughts on:Kellogg NYT article 4/22/12

“I would hate to have to ever say that there is any bad food out there,” Ms. Bath, the senior vice president, says after motioning to a box of Cheez-It mozzarella crackers, 'because I don’t think there is any bad food. We don’t make bad food. We make great food, and everything is to be eaten in moderation, right?”

"This line of argument enrages people like Robert H. Lustig, a professor of clinical pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco, and a longtime critic of the food industry. He says that people who consume sugar are more likely to overeat because 'there are signals to the brain that tell you when you’ve had enough; sugar blocks them.'”

Obviously my thoughts are with Robert - of course there are bad foods! If they don't have any nutrition and can actually be harmful to our bodies, how can they not be bad?

I don't see Kellogg doing so much better with the purchase of Pringles, but we'll see. Yes, the stores are mimicking the cereals, like Rice Crispies, but people are also starting to want to learn more about the foods we're giving our children. I believe it's important to pay attention to the buyers and instead of trying to manipulate the idea of eating sugary cereals by saying they can be good for the immune system or can make our children more alert, try creating healthier options or modifying the ingredients a bit.

Let's be HONEST about what we're offering others, in all aspects of our lives.
