2 days ago, I was on the subway, and I saw a child with his mother and older sister. The child, who was overweight and seemed a bit lethargic, was eating a bag of cookies (for breakfast?).
This morning, on the subway again, I saw 2 children, along with their mother and older brother. The boy was probably 7 years old and the girl probably around 10 years old. They were eating candy, sucking off the sugar. This was at 8:15am.
These instances really bothered me inside. These children who seemed so sweet and innocent did not know.
How can we educate the mothers? Are the kids being taught anything about nutrition in school?
We have to start young! I felt so hopeless.
I wanted so badly to tell them that an apple would be so much healthier and super tasty! I wanted to tell them that I would love to have an hour discussion with them (complimentary of course) just to teach them HOW to have more stable energy, better concentration, and a healthier life!
But I didn't want to intrude or make the mothers feel like I was being rude saying something to them or to their child/children. So what's a gal to do?
What can WE do?
